I had planned to stay on theme for this week's Sepia Saturday, but on browsing through a few vintage magazines for a suitable image, I came across this advertisement. Admittedly I should have posted this in early February for a Valentine related theme, but I've missed that and next February is too far away. It's a vintage advertisement for the Ford Zodiac from the February 1959 edition of Motor Sport magazine.

They've discovered each other, and they're wonderfully happy ... as you will be, when you discover the Zodiac. Let your eye linger on elegant lines and lovely colours, single or two-tone ... the sumptuous interior, with soft leather seating, rich astrakhan carpets. Feel the power - fast, safe, and, if you wish, fully-automatic. Note the very reasonable cost and all the built-in extras. You'll know ... you and the Zodiac are made for each other!
I have never heard of the Zodiac before now. It is a nice looking car.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Ford. This one looks pretty spiffy.

Modern advertisements aren't a patch on those from the 1950s - almost as stylish as the cars themselves. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteNice ! My uncle had a red and black two-tone, I remember well, I wish I could find a photo of it but if it exists it will be on 35mm slides and too hard to search for.
ReplyDeleteNever had a Zodiac, but my first Ford was a Corsair.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those old two-tone cars.
ReplyDeleteBravo- I like it, and never heard of a Ford Zodiac before, and even my car-hubby hadn't heard of it before! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that, your post fooled my car-man hubby....of course once I went to google images and found this very awesome Ford Zodiac you brought to life today, my hubby says, oh yeah an English Ford.... I'm thinking hubby saw the steering on the other side and the license plates that helped give it away! Again, thanks for this cool reflection of luxury!
ReplyDeletebeautiful car
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Everyone seems to have had a Ford at some stage. We had a 1953 Ford Customline as our 1st married car and then a Ford Falcon station wagon when the kids came along - that one was a lemon!
ReplyDelete"a lemon" ... not a phrase I'm familiar with ... unless you mean the opposite of "a peach" ... and therefore sour as oppose to sweet?
DeleteWhy on earth don't they have those marvellous two-tone cars any more - perhaps they will eventually come back into fashion.
ReplyDeleteJust By chance, this weekend,I Came Across The Ford Zodiac Drivers Manual.I Had To Share It With You here.............
