Sepia Saturday 118 - Going Out

This week's Sepia Saturday theme of Going Out had me baffled for a short while. I knew I had pictures of people dressed for an occasion, but the big question was where. As I leafed through some 1940's editions of Picturegoer magazine, I came across this vintage advertisement for Henry C.Miner's Liquid Make Up, featuring 2 people obviously going out somewhere. Click on the image to enlarge ... the text makes for an amusing read.

  1. How funny! If a ‘good-natured smile’from a passing stranger is a threat to your make-up staying put, you’d have real problems!

BTW, I’m not sure if you are aware that you still have word verifcation switched on. There’s a general rebellion to do away with it as it’s become very complicated and seems to be putting people off commenting. I got rid of my mine a couple of weeks ago and it’s been fine. Have a good weekend.

  5. The ending of that ad is funny ... try it, buy it, you'll love it. Ha! And, put it on your neck, arms and back (that will keep you needing to stock up on refills. This was really neat, especially as the lady is a free spirit, wearing her pants as her date wears a kilt.

Thanks for sharing, I'm cracking up.

  7. What a funny ad - I've never heard of putting makeup on your arms and back. I suppose Miner's Liquid Makeup could be considered an early form of self-tanning lotion.
