Sepia Saturday 72: Vintage Air Mail magazines, 1960's

Firstly apologies to regular readers of this blog and Sepia Saturday who may be expecting another vintage Picturegoer magazine, but I've decided to take a break from these for a short time and share some other recent finds. A few weeks ago I came across these vintage Air Mail magazines, which is the journal of the Royal Air Forces Association. The magazines are quite specialist in nature and possibly only of interest to people connected with the Air Force, but some of the covers and adverts will almost certainly have a wider appeal. I think I still have the stamps advertised in the 25th Battle of Britain anniversary edition, although not on a First Day Cover. And for those of you wondering if there's any connection with Friday's Royal Wedding, there's not, although the Queen does feature on the 2nd cover, so that's close enough.

As usual, more vintage magazines and vintage postcards on my web site

  6. An interesting post. I expect Prince William would be interested in it too, given that he is serving in the RAF. It was great to see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's flypast today.

  10. It was interesting to see the pic of queen Elizabeth. She looked so young. Watching her at the wedding, I think she still looks pretty good.

  11. What struck me about several of these images was that the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was in 1965. I was a kid then and didn't realize how recent WWII was, how fresh in the memories of my parents and grandparents. I guess kids don't think too much about the past. Thanks for sharing.

  13. That is not well know to me and that is what I love about this particular meme. Great stories and photos and lots to learn. Thanks for sharing that, very appropriate. I love all things British, that is my ancestry. I feel the DNA tingling in my toes, oops maybe that is the diabetes I have. LOL

  14. A most fitting post considering the theme. Magazine covers can be an art form, can't they?

  18. I see you're not! (Duh!)

These are great, DBoo! I remember my dad taking me to see "The Battle of Britain" when I was just 8 or 9. I was totally absorbed in it. I think these magazines must be very compelling to read.

  21. I was asking myself...what royal wedding? and then I looked at the date of the post. Now I understand. I think these are very interesting even if you're not an Air Force follower.

  23. I liked this post. The only place I have ever seen a huge portrait hung on a wall was in the airport in Bermuda. I am always interested in seeing and learning new things.
