I was initially stumped by this week's Sepia Saturday theme, but following a search through some of my vintage magazines I came across these two vintage advertisements on the theme of tents and camping, and also managed to get a motorbike related advert in too, so doubly on theme.
I lobe the concept of the seaside bathing tent, providing comfort and convenience for seaside pleasures.

Vintage advertisement for a seaside bathing tent
Vintage advertisement for tents and a motorbike helmet
Not much of a helmet by today's standards, is it?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the double whammy of tent and helmet.
ReplyDeleteTo find tents and a helmet on a two page spread must be unusual. I wonder what the odds ahainst doing that were.
ReplyDeleteI 'love' how drawings of tents always make them look so taut & smooth . . . as though they really look like that when set up ordinary campers. Or, in more modern times, pictures of tents set up in a controlled atmosphere by experts. We campers know how they look in real life! Taut & smooth in the hot sun, perhaps; but shrunken & wrinkled in the night air!
ReplyDeleteDid one change clothes in a bathing tent--change from clothes to bathing suit and back again? "Comfort and convenience for seaside pleasures?" Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteThe bathing tent is interesting. It never occurred to me that families could bring their own tents for changing on the beach.
ReplyDeleteI like the depiction of the coy lady peeping out of the tent.
